OEM Silicon Electrode Pads | Platinum-Cured Rubber | TOP-RANK
B2B reusable silicon electrode pads. Manufactured via platinum-catalyzed compression molding to eliminate volatile byproducts, offering medical-grade autoclave tolerance and zero-ohm wire overmolding.
Product Overview
This silicon electrode pad is a non-adhesive, heavy-duty transdermal conductor engineered for extreme-cycle clinical environments and whole-body EMS suits. Bypassing standard peroxide-cured rubbers, this specific substrate utilizes a platinum-catalyzed cross-linking process to fuse high-consistency silicone with conductive carbon matrices. It requires a liquid conductive medium and mechanical strapping to establish the epidermal circuit. We manufacture these molded elastomer pads for hospital procurement networks, physical therapy hardware OEMs, and professional electro-fitness (EMS) apparel brands.
Technical/Engineering Description
The manufacturing sequence dictates the final chemical purity of the pad. Raw High Consistency Rubber (HCR) is mechanically milled with pure conductive carbon. Instead of using cheap peroxide agents that leave acidic residues, the compound is dosed with a platinum catalyst. The raw sheets are loaded into multi-cavity CNC steel molds and subjected to precise thermal compression (150°C to 170°C). The platinum accelerates the Si-O-Si cross-linking without producing any low-molecular-weight byproducts. For wired configurations, the internal conductive wire mesh is placed directly into the mold cavity; the silicone vulcanizes around the wire, creating a seamless, waterproof overmolded joint. MOQ for standard sizes is 10,000 pieces.
Key Features
-
Platinum-Cured Cytotoxicity Prevention
Standard industrial silicones are cured using peroxides. This chemical reaction breaks down during vulcanization, leaving behind acetophenone and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) locked inside the rubber. When placed on human skin under the heat of a 45-minute TENS session, these acidic byproducts leach out, triggering severe contact dermatitis and allergic rashes. Platinum addition-curing yields a 100% pure addition reaction. Zero byproducts are formed. The resulting conductive elastomer passes extreme ISO 10993 cytotoxicity and sensitization baselines without requiring post-cure chemical baking out.
-
Overmolded Strain Relief (Wire-to-Pad Interface)
Clinic technicians frequently pull silicon pads off patients by aggressively yanking the lead wires. If a standard 2.0mm brass pin receptacle is merely glued into a pre-cut hole in the rubber, the kinetic pull force shears the connection, permanently spiking the pad's impedance to infinity. In our overmolded configurations, the stripped copper wire and terminal are embedded into the raw silicone before the press closes. The vulcanization process chemically and physically bonds the rubber matrix directly through the wire mesh. This unibody construction absorbs up to 50N of extraction force without terminal dislocation.
-
Autoclave Saturated Steam Tolerance
High-turnover physical therapy and post-op wards mandate stringent infection control protocols between patients. Standard PVC or thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) pads melt and structurally deform when subjected to clinical sterilization equipment. This specific platinum-cured silicone lattice maintains its dimensional stability and carbon dispersion logic at extreme temperatures. The pad can be continuously cycled through standard hospital autoclaves using saturated steam at 134°C for 18-minute cycles without material degradation, surface cracking, or toxic leaching.
Applications
Whole-Body EMS Apparel
Direct integration into the inner lining of electromyostimulation suits, requiring high-flex rubber capable of surviving continuous machine washing.
Post-Op Infection Control Wards
Autoclave-ready transdermal interfaces for hospital environments where single-use hydrogels are cost-prohibitive but sterility is mandatory.
Galvanic Iontophoresis
Low-peel, breathable configurations that monitor vital signs without stripping the highly underdeveloped stratum corneum of premature infants upon removal.
OEM & Private Label
-
CNC Mold Engineering : We cut primary steel molds based on client CAD vectors, offering dual-surface tooling. The skin-facing side can be polished to a mirror finish for maximum moisture lock, while the outward-facing surface receives an EDM matte texture to reduce friction against patient clothing.
-
Logistics Routing : Silicone compounding and high-tonnage thermal vulcanization run in our China plant. Post-cure QA sorting, multi-pack kitting with elastic velcro straps, and direct dispatch execute through our Vietnam hub, bypassing specific hardware import tariffs for North American medical distributors.
Certifications
-
Biocompatibility : The platinum-cured matrix is strictly validated against ISO 10993-5 (Cytotoxicity), verifying absolute non-reactivity and zero chemical migration onto the human epidermis under heavy electrical load.
-
Systems: Mold cavity thermal mapping and raw material batch locking operate entirely within our audited ISO 13485:2016 and MDSAP regulatory frameworks.
FAQ
Q: Can we apply a layer of sticky hydrogel directly to this silicon pad to make it self-adhesive?
A: No. Cured silicone possesses an extremely low surface energy (which is why nothing sticks to silicone baking mats). An aqueous hydrogel layer cannot form a permanent mechanical or chemical bond with the silicone surface. As soon as the pad is pulled off the patient, the hydrogel will separate from the rubber and stay stuck to the skin. These pads strictly require an external liquid gel or water to bridge the impedance gap, held in place by mechanical straps.
Q: Why do some cheap silicon electrodes smell like vinegar or plastic when you open the bag?
A: That odor is the off-gassing of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It indicates the factory used cheap peroxide curing agents and failed to perform a mandatory secondary post-bake process (cooking the rubber for 4 hours at 200°C) to burn off the toxic residue. Our platinum-curing process completely eliminates VOC creation at the chemical level, resulting in an odorless, pure medical-grade elastomer directly out of the primary mold.
