Electrode Gel

Electrode Gel
Details:
The core physical mechanism relies on water, propylene glycol acting as a humectant, and sodium chloride (NaCl) or potassium chloride (KCl) to provide freely moving electrical charges. A cross-linked carbomer polymer forms a network that suspends this highly conductive liquid into a semi-solid gel state. Manufacturing takes place inside vacuum emulsification tanks for degassing. If micro-bubbles are trapped inside the gel matrix, they create a polarization capacitance effect on the electrode surface, introducing signal noise like baseline wander. Biocompatibility of skin-contact materials is documented under ISO 10993 parameters.

Typical OEM MOQ for standard tubes is 10,000 units.

OEM Electrode Gel | ECG & TENS Conductive Medium | TOP-RANK

Bulk and private label electrode gel. Engineered with balanced chloride electrolytes to bridge epidermal air gaps and maintain < 20 Ohm impedance for ECG, EEG, and reusable TENS hardware.

Product Overview

This electrode gel acts as a fluid interface specifically formulated for passive surface electrodes, such as stainless steel ECG clamps, EEG cap sensors, or carbon rubber TENS pads. In clinical diagnostics, microscopic air gaps between dry skin and rigid hardware block electrical current and bio-signal transmission. This medium fills those physical voids. It connects the epidermis to the metal substrate via a high-ion-concentration fluid network. We supply this liquid formulation in bulk and OEM packaging for B2B medical consumable distributors and device manufacturers.

Key Features

  • Epidermal Air Gap Bridging

Pressing a flat metal electrode directly against the skin leaves air pockets due to the rough micro-topology of the stratum corneum. Since air is an insulator, the equipment's output impedance spikes into the thousands of ohms. The high flowability of the gel allows it to seep into these microscopic epidermal fissures. Dissociated chloride ions establish a continuous, low-resistance (< 20 Ohms) charge transfer path directly between the horny layer and the metal substrate.

  • H3: Hardware Oxidation Threshold

Excessive salt concentrations yield excellent conductivity but inevitably corrode reusable medical-grade stainless steel clamps or Ag/AgCl probes. Metals exposed to heavy chlorides undergo rapid pitting. Our electrolyte titration process restricts the salt density to a specific threshold. This formulation delivers the sensitivity required for millivolt-level bio-signals (like ECG) while delaying the electrochemical degradation of expensive diagnostic hardware.

  • H3: Evaporative Resistance

Clinical environments are often extremely dry due to constant HVAC airflow. A pure water-based gel begins to evaporate at body temperature within 15 minutes, leaving behind a non-conductive salt crust. A specific ratio of humectants blended into the formula lowers the moisture vapor evaporation rate of the matrix. This allows the gel to maintain its liquid volume and viscosity during continuous 60-minute dynamic monitoring sessions, such as treadmill stress tests.

OEM & Private Label

  • Packaging Configurations : Available in 15ml to 250ml squeeze tubes, 250g cylindrical bottles, and 5L bulk flexible bladders for high-volume clinic dispensers. Tube exteriors accommodate 4-color offset printing.

  • Supply Chain Routing: Chemical compounding and primary vessel filling run in China. Batch consolidation, secondary packaging, and final palletization are processed through our Vietnam facility to build supply chain resilience and optimize regional logistics routing.

Certifications

Systems : Liquid formulation and filling lines operate strictly within ISO 13485:2016 frameworks.

Compliance : Supported by safety data sheets (SDS) and non-cytotoxic testing documentation.

FAQ

Q: Can this electrode gel be used for diagnostic ultrasound imaging?

A: No. Ultrasound couplants are formulated for acoustic impedance matching and contain no electrolytes. The high salt content in this electrode gel will corrode the rubber matching layer on expensive piezoelectric ultrasound transducer arrays.

Q: Why does the gel leave a white residue on the patient's skin after drying?

A: The water and humectant bases evaporate over time, leaving behind the active ionic salts (chlorides) and the cross-linked carbomer polymer. This is a normal physical reaction. The residue is highly water-soluble and can be removed with a standard damp paper towel.
